Over the years we have shared some of the faith and science plus scripture and theology that energize Care of Creation’s response to God’s call. That call moves us to act in many ways to care for creation in general and protect the climate in particular. We act to express the gospel of the Kingdom, to express the love of God and neighbor, to extend justice to all. At this time, that call also moves us to invite those of you who share these concerns to act also.
Please direct your thoughts, prayers, and calls on behalf of efforts next week to protect the climate! Recognize that dozens of supportive phone calls before a Congressional office meeting on the climate crisis do get legislators’ attention. It does make a difference.
In particular call your members of Congress Fri., June 9 as part of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby Call-in. You can help protect the climate and care for creation even if you can’t join the over 1,000 CCL volunteers, including Care of Creation staffer Kermit Hovey, flooding Washington DC for the 8th Annual CCL Conference & Lobby Day, June 11-13. CCL, although a secular organization, is one we share many values with and happily endorse as a positive option to address climate change.
You can help in the comfort of your own home. And it’s easy! Go to http://cclusa.org/callcongress. All you do is supply your address and zip code. The site will supply the phone #s and talking points. You’ll be priming your Member(s) of Congress in advance of the CCL volunteers visit to their offices June 13. We CAN slow climate change. This simple task for you can result in BIG dividends for a livable world for neighbors next door, across the country, and around the world!
P.S. if you can be in D.C. over the next few days of the conference, walk-in registrations are possible (https://citizensclimatelobby.org/2017-ccl-conference/ ).
