When autumn turns to winter,
When all the colors disappear,
When the leaves have fallen and the trees are left naked and bare,
When the world is ashen and forlorn,
And darkness creeps in a bit earlier each day,
I find hope in the promise of spring.
The telltale buds on the frosted branches,
Small signs of coming growth,
Winter is a time of opportunity,
A time to restore and gain strength.
And so it is in our lives,
Though we experience dark and difficult times,
Our hope is in the Lord,
And though we may feel bare and alone,
We can rest and wait in his promises,
Even rejoice in our sufferings.
“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5
